What is Relationship Coaching For Parents and Partners?

I'm Chelsea Skaggs. I'm a certified life coach who specializes in supporting expecting and new parents (think 0-5). My goal is to help you find your confidence and teamwork in the midst of the chaos so you can enjoy more of the life you've built.

One of the best ways to learn more about coaching is to hear from someone who has been through it. This podcast episode is from a prior client who shares why coaching with me was a pivotal part of their relationship and what the process was like for her and her husband.

What is a Coach?
Sometimes I’m asked, “What exactly is a coach?” Early in my career, I actually really wrestled with finding the right term to describe what I offer. Although "coach" isn’t a perfect fit, it does encapsulate much of what I do. I like to think of myself not just as a coach, but also as a guide, usher, and your bonus big sister who has your back and wants you to succeed.

Why Coaching?
Coaching is about working with someone who’s been through similar ups and downs and can help you figure out life with less stress and more confidence. I don’t have all the answers, and I’m not here to tell you exactly how to live your life. Instead, I use my own experiences and training to create a safe space for you to talk things through, understand where you’ve been, and imagine where you want to go.

Coaching isn’t just for fixing problems. It’s for anyone who wants to get better in an area that matters to them. Working with a coach is choosing to grow and improve in ways that really count.

What Are Coaching Sessions Like?
In our sessions, we mix a little bit of structure with a whole lot of flexibility. We’ll tackle big themes that are key for life changes, but we’ll also keep things personal to what’s happening in your world. Each session is a 50-minute chat—either by video or phone—where we’ll go over your main goals, your daily wins, and the topics you’re ready to dig into.

Maybe we’ll work on breaking out of those same old arguments in your relationship, or let go of the “shoulds” in parenthood so you can be more of your true self. Our sessions are set up to give you the right mix of support and tools that make a real difference in your life.

Coaching Between Sessions
What sets this coaching experience apart is the continuous interaction between our weekly calls. Via email or the voice messaging app Voxer, you don’t have to wait a full week to address a new concern or insight. Whether it’s self-doubt first thing in the morning or a challenging discussion with your spouse, we can address these issues as they arise, applying our strategies in real-time. This means you're more likely to learn from your experience and have quicker growth.

Why Choose Me as Your Coach?
I wasn’t one of those people who knew what I wanted to “be” since I was little. But I always knew I loved talking with people, seeing others light up when they learn or grow, and finding ways to make a difference. My curiosity about people and our connections led me to study psychology and sociology in college. For a while, I thought I’d go into marriage and family therapy, but the clinical side just didn’t feel like the right fit.

Life coaching turned out to be the perfect path for me. Instead of focusing on labels or digging too far into the past, it’s about growth and looking ahead—right where my strengths shine.

Specializing in New Parent Coaching
I found my true calling in coaching new parents. Our world often skips over how big the changes are when a baby arrives. As wonderful as this time is, it also calls for new skills and ways of thinking. I believe strong families are the heart of a happy, healthy world. By helping parents stay connected and strong, we’re creating a safe, loving space that’s good for everyone—especially our kids.
